
Ellen B. Safir, CFA
Ellen Safir is responsible for the overall investment and business strategy of New Century Advisors. Ellen founded New Century Advisors in 2002 with a background of 20 years of fixed income portfolio management experience. In her 16 years as Managing Director, Fixed Income and Currencies, at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), one of the world's largest philanthropies, she utilized a broad spectrum of fixed income securities, derivatives and investment approaches in managing $3 billion in fixed income assets and $1.5 billion in a currency overlay program. Ellen also served as Acting Director of Investments. When she left to found New Century Advisors, HHMI retained Ellen, who formed a team to manage $150 million in assets—the first time a former employee was engaged as an outside manager.
Ellen began her career as a financial analyst at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C. She holds a B.A. from Bennington College and an M.B.A. from George Washington University. She is a member of the investment committee of the Holocaust Memorial Museum and the finance committee of the Foundation for Advanced Education in Science at the National Institutes of Health. She is the President of the Washington Society of Investment Analysts and was a past president of the Washington Association of Money Managers. She was formerly on the board of directors of Century National Bank of Washington, D.C.
Nils C. Overdahl, CFA
Nils Overdahl is responsible for managing portfolios as well as researching and executing investment strategies. Nils' particular focus is on quantitative and qualitative analysis of credit and non-U.S. country fundamentals. Nils brings a broad investment background to New Century Advisors. He has over 5 years of inflation market experience and over 10 years of fixed income management experience. Nils has traded all sectors of the fixed income market including interest rate, inflation and credit default swaps and options. Prior to joining New Century Advisors, Mr. Overdahl worked at Salomon Smith Barney and at Mellon Bank, where he was part of a team that managed over $2 billion of taxable fixed income assets. As a generalist, Nils was responsible for over $100 million of taxable fixed income assets; he traded several sectors, performed credit and yield curve analysis and was a voting member of both the bond strategy and the credit review committees. Mr. Overdahl also worked in a successful start up venture in the financial services industry. Mr. Overdahl received a B.S. from the University of New Hampshire and an M.B.A from the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business.
Eric J. Patlovich, CFA
Mr. Patlovich has research and trading responsibilities with a particular focus on the mortgage-backed and structured product markets, including: MBS, ABS, CMBS, and CDO's. Eric also researches and implements duration management strategies in the global money markets and manages New Century Advisors foreign exchange trading. Prior to joining New Century Advisors, he was a financial analyst at PNM Resources Inc. where he developed financial models and performed market and financial analysis. He also worked as a laboratory assistant at Mortensen Engineering where he was responsible for compiling, analyzing, and interpreting data. Mr. Patlovich received a B.S. in Commerce with concentrations in Finance and Marketing from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.
Nicholas Bundy
Mr. Bundy has research responsibilities with a particular focus on the corporate bond markets. Prior to joining New Century Advisors, he was a senior analyst at Churchill Research Inc., a global macro research firm and money manager. Mr. Bundy also was a member of the defense equity research team at BB&T Capital Markets. He was instrumental in assisting the team in winning industry awards and recognition including the #1 aerospace and defense analyst in 2007 by The Wall Street Journal and the #3 aerospace and defense stock picker by The Financial Times/Starmine. Mr. Bundy started his financial career at a hedge fund in New York, where he performed a fundamental role in managing the firm's existing products, researching and developing new initiatives, improving office operations, and building the business infrastructure. Mr. Bundy received and MA in International Finance at Columbia University and a BA in Political Science at the University of Chicago.
